This procedure is performed to eliminate periodontal disease. This disease if left untreated has been proven to cause systemic problems as well as endocarditis (infection of the heart). Previous periodontal treatment involved cutting of the gums, scraping the bone and stitching the gums back to position. Patients experience slight soreness for 24 hours only and usually need nothing more than Ibuprofen for the discomfort. No continued sensitivity or shrinkage of the gum tissues exists. The whole mouth or partial areas can be done at each appointment and patients have been extremely surprised at how easy it is as compared to the traditional treatment.
